New at the Drugstore: Wet n Wild Fergie Vivacious Varnish High Shine Lip Stain

Wet n Wild has put out a ton of new products for 2014. I have had a chance to try a few, but today I wanted to talk to you about the new Wet n Wild Fergie Vivacious Varnish High Shine Lip Stain.

I had no idea what to expect from this product. By looking at the packaging it looks like a typical gloss, but the words 'varnish' and 'stain' had me thinking there was more to it than that. There was a nice selection of shades, but I decided to play it safe and get the two lightest shades. I found these at my local Walgreens, and you can go to the Walgreens website to see the full color selection. The product is 0.24 oz, and run about $3.50 a piece. 



The first Shade I tried was Legendary Face. This color is a pink nude 'your lips but better' shade. The applicator is long and thin and applies the perfect amount of product. You can see in the picture that the sponge tip is stained darker than the product on the applicator - hence the staining property. This actually scared me because I HATE how the Revlon Just Bitten Balm Stains stain my lips a darker color than the color of the actual product.

Here is Legendary Face on the lips. The top photo shows the product immediately after it is applied; the second is after 3 hours of wear. 

I thought that this shade was beautiful. In the first picture you can see that it applies just as it looks in the tube. I was happy to see that the lip color only darkened a bit after wear; it didn't stain my lips a crazy color like some other staining lip products I have tried. It felt nice and smooth on the lip upon application. I did think that this varnish was thicker than a typical gloss, and has as almost tacky feeling. If you are looking for a thin gloss product, this is not it. This shade applied evenly, lasted at least 5 hours on the lip without needing a touch up, and just looked beautiful. It smells lightly sweet, but the scent is not overwhelming at all. 

The next shade I tried was called Giving Realness. This color is a gorgeous peachy nude. I was really hoping it would look like Revlon Bellini gloss. Again, you can see that the applicator is stained a much darker pink shade than the product itself. Scary! Sadly, that was the last thing I needed to be worried about with this shade...

This shade was MUCH more difficult to apply. I had to work with it for at least a minute to get an even application. It was patchy and gloopy and just an all around mess. When I finally got it to look like an even coat, I pursed my lips together and it was a mess all over again. I wore it for three hours for review purposes, and you can see that it also did not do a crazy pink stain on my lips. The color actually looked pretty and just slightly darker. Unfortunately, I wiped this off of my lips after the 3 hour mark because it was a patchy, sticky mess. You can't really tell in the photo above, so I've added a close up for you to see.

Hopefully you can see in this photo how patchy and awful this shade looked on the lip.

Overall, I really loved Legendary Face and had high hopes for this product line. After trying Giving Realness, I wish I would have tried the darker shades. I have a feeling that the darker shades would apply much nicer and not as patchy. Since the price point is so low on this product, I may go pick up some of the darker shades with hopes that I'd love them as much as Legendary Face.
